Russia launches last Kilo submarine built for Vietnam
On the morning of September 28, at the Admiralty Verfi shipyard in St Petersburg, the launching ceremony of the submarine HQ-187 Ba Ria-Vung Tau of Project 636, Varshavyanka class (NATO name Kilo) built for Vietnam took place.

Attending the launching ceremony on the Vietnamese side were Commander of the Vietnam Navy, Rear Admiral Pham Hoai Nam; Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tuan Minh; Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Nguyen Thanh Son.
On the Russian side were Commander of the Russian Navy, Viktor Chirkov; General Director of the Admiralty Verfi Plant, Aleksandler Buzakov; Deputy General Director of the arms export company Rosoboronexport, Igor Sevaschianov.
HQ-187 Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the last submarine in the batch of 6 Varshavyanka-class submarines built by Russia for Vietnam.
Vietnam has received four submarines, including HQ-182 Hanoi; HQ-183 Ho Chi Minh City; HQ-184 Hai Phong; and HQ-185 Da Nang. The fifth, HQ-186 Khanh Hoa, is undergoing trials in the Baltic Sea.
The above submarines are part of a contract signed between Russia and Vietnam to manufacture and supply 6 modern Varshavyanka-class diesel-electric submarines to the Vietnamese Navy worth 2 billion USD, signed in 2009.
The contract includes training of submarine crews as well as providing necessary equipment./.
