Arktika, a Project 22220 ship, is considered the world's largest and most powerful icebreaker, measuring 172m long and 33.7m wide. The Arktika has a displacement of 33,540 tonnes and is powered by two RITM-200 nuclear reactors.

The ship can also escort a commercial convoy in the Arctic and break through ice more than 3.3m thick. The Arktika is the first ship of Project 22220, ordered by Russian nuclear energy company Rosatom in 2012 for $1.1 billion.

In 2014, the Baltic Shipyard signed a contract worth 84.4 billion rubles (equivalent to 1.2 billion USD) with Rosatom to build two more icebreakers by 2020. These two ships are scheduled to be commissioned in December 2019 and December 2020./.
