It took Russia 1 minute to detect the coordinates of a senior Ukrainian officer via satellite phone.
The Russian military determined the location of senior officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using the Iridium satellite communication system, a Russian officer nicknamed “Gambit” from the electronic intelligence unit of the “Northern” group of forces told Sputnik.
“They use the Iridium satellite communication system. Access to this system is not easy, but there are specialized units that solve this problem. Usually these units monitor the most important representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine... To be exact, they appear in the network for just one or two minutes, and we immediately know the coordinates of their presence and pass them on to the interested units,” “Gambit” said.
According to him, the decision is then made whether to shoot at the target or track it.
In March 2023, Russian Guard units discovered a radio probe on the territory of the LNR, thanks to which Ukrainian saboteurs transmitted intelligence to the Russian Armed Forces. Law enforcement experts determined the location from which the Iridium satellite complex could communicate.
