Political scientist, Director of the Tauride Center for Analysis and Information Alexander Bedritsky believes that the positions of Russia and the West regarding the conflict in Ukraine are currently irreconcilable, and negotiations on Ukraine can only happen with a political earthquake.

According to RIA Novosti on July 20, political scientist and director of the Tauride Information and Analysis Center Alexander Bedritsky said that the positions of Russia and the West regarding the conflict in Ukraine are currently irreconcilable. Real negotiations will be able to take place after a crisis situation that threatens to lead to a global conflict.

Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he had a “very good” phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to Mr. Trump, if he wins the White House race, he will “bring peace and end the war.”

Political scientist Bedritsky said that Mr. Trump's position was further strengthened, especially after his failed assassination attempt caused tension in the Kiev government.

“In Kiev, they were certainly very tense, because President Zelensky had great confidence in President Biden. But Zelensky continued his work, which aimed to hold a second peace summit, and it was necessary to ensure that Russian representatives were present there. On the other hand, it was also to put on the agenda the discussion of Zelensky’s proposals. However, in this case, rhetoric will not work, because negotiating with the United States and Europe, or with NATO is one thing, and trying to involve Russia in negotiations is another,” – political scientist Bedritsky said.

This expert believes that serious negotiations to end hostilities in the current situation are impossible for two reasons. First, it is impossible for Mr. Zelensky and his advisers. Second, the differences in positions between Russia and the West are currently irreconcilable. This is reflected in the statement of the NATO Summit and in the positions of the United States and individual European countries.

“No one has expressed a desire to negotiate seriously with Russia, taking into account Moscow’s interests. And this will only happen after some serious crisis, which could lead to a larger war. Without such shocks, at least until the period of change of the American elite. That is, in October-November this year, negotiations are in principle impossible,” said political scientist Bedritsky./.
