"The relationship between the US and Russia is very complicated when the two countries disagree with each other in many areas. There have been issues where the two countries have found common ground in the past and the US hopes to continue to cooperate with Russia, for example the issue of Syria. There are many tensions on the remaining issues, one of which is the issue of Ukraine and the Minsk Agreement," Mr. Kirby said.
"The US is continuing to discuss with Russia about extending the ceasefire in Syria. The US Department of Defense and the Russian military are ready for dialogue related to aviation safety and situational awareness in Syria after Russia repelled the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization in Syria," Mr. Kirby shared at a press conference on July 8.
He also affirmed that the US and Russia regularly discuss the threats that IS and al-Nusra rebels continue to pose in Syria and efforts to end the war in this country.
Last week, the Washington Post reported that the Obama administration had asked Russia for new military cooperation to fight terrorist groups in Syria.
