On March 17, the Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ella Pamfilova, said that about 280,000 malicious distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks targeting the electronic voting system have been prevented since online voting in the Russian presidential election began.

“All attacks were blocked by our internal data security systems and data protection provided by Rostelecom and Russia’s communications watchdog Roskomnadzor. We have responded so far and will do so during the election period. That’s for sure,” Pamfilova said.

Four candidates are running in the Russian presidential election, which will last for the first time over the first three days from March 15-17, 2024. They are New People's Party candidate Vladislav Davankov; self-nominated candidate and incumbent President Vladimir Putin; Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) candidate Leonid Slutsky; and Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) candidate Nikolay Kharitonov.
