Russia: Big explosion on subway in St. Petersburg city

(Baonghean.vn) - Russian news agency TASS quoted police sources as saying that they are evacuating passengers from a subway station after a large explosion just occurred.

A large explosion occurred at a subway station in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, injuring several passengers, a local law enforcement source said on April 3.

“The explosion occurred at the Sennaya Ploshchad metro station, there were several casualties,” the source confirmed, adding that the platform was filled with smoke.

A spokesman for the regional department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said they were checking reports of smoke at the station: “There were complaints about smoke, staff are on the scene.”

Meanwhile, the Mirror reported that witnesses said there had been an explosion at the station. One of them wrote on Twitter: “I was going down the escalator when suddenly there was an explosion from the underground. People are being evacuated from the platform.”
