Russia makes maximum efforts at P5+1 and Iran meeting
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on June 11 affirming that Moscow will make maximum efforts to achieve constructive dialogue at the meeting between the P5+1 Group and Iran on June 18-19 in Moscow.
The statement confirmed that in addition to representatives of the P5+1 Group (including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Russia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom and France, along with Germany), the participation in the upcoming meeting in Moscow will also include the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Catherine Ashton, and the Secretary of the Iranian National Security Council, Mr. Saeed Jalili.

The statement said that representatives of the P5+1 and Iran will discuss specific proposals that were presented to Tehran after the round of talks in Baghdad (Iraq) on May 23-24. Moscow hopes that the upcoming meeting will bring positive results in the direction of overcoming current disagreements and bringing their positions closer together.
The statement stressed that Russia consistently pursues a political-diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran's controversial nuclear program on the basis of mutual respect and taking into account each other's interests. The statement said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Tehran on June 13 to prepare for the upcoming meeting in Moscow and discuss with the Iranian leadership the situation in Syria in order to contribute to the implementation of the peace plan of the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the Arab League, Mr. Kofi Annan.
Russia has proposed convening an international conference on Syria and believes that Iran needs to join the efforts of the international community to have a positive impact on the situation in Syria./.
