Russia ready to supply “Pantsir” to Türkiye
Short- and medium-range air defense systems such as Pantsir-S1 are needed to ensure the safety of the S-400.
"I am convinced that the successful and timely implementation of the contract for the supply of S-400s will allow us to talk about expanding cooperation in the field of air defense missile systems, and the supply of Pantsir missile-gun complexes can be one of the next logical steps," Shugaev said.
In an interview with Sputnik, Deputy Chairman of the "Rodina" party, former pilot, retired Major General Beyazyt Karatash commented on the above statement and the possibility of Turkey purchasing Russian "Pantsir" systems.
"If you buy a long-range air defense system that can destroy targets at high altitudes, you need to ensure the safety of this system from the air. You need a missile "umbrella" like "Pantsir" to protect against low- and medium-altitude attacks on air defense missile systems like the S-400 or Patriot. This applies not only to the S-400 air defense system, but also to civilian and military entities that need missile defense."
Also in an interview with Sputnik, military expert Viktor Murakhovski, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Treasure of the Fatherland", a colonel of the reserve army, emphasized that the S-400 and "Pantsir" complexes are working successfully in parallel.
"We have the S-400, a complex with long-range effectiveness. As for its protection, as a rule, for an S-400 battalion, a "Pantsir" company with a standard structure is used, which provides protection for the S-400 from air strikes and weapons such as air-to-ground missiles, small aircraft. This was also demonstrated at the Hmeimim air base, where the "Pantsir" complex dealt with drones. And the S-400 systems at that time were responsible for controlling the airspace and stopping the provocations of the US air force. This is a typical example of natural symbiosis".
One of the tasks of the Pantsir complex is to provide cover for nearby civilian and military objects. In this regard, expert Viktor Murakhovsky commented as follows:
"The S-400 works together with the Pantsir, which is an effective model of air defense systems. These equipment are designed to protect any strategically important objects."
