Russia is ready to jointly promote the normalization of the situation in Myanmar
Moscow is ready to help find ways to normalize the situation in the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said during a discussion of the situation in Myanmar at the extraordinary ASEAN Summit.
"We are ready, together with our regional partners Naypyidaw, to help find ways to normalize the situation in friendly Myanmar," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Responsible approach
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted the balanced and responsible approach of ASEAN member states and stressed their adherence to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of the countries, the intention of the 10 countries to continue regional dialogue while not allowing external pressure.

“We support the ‘Five-Point Consensus’ adopted after the discussion, which largely echoes Russia’s approaches, including calling on all parties in Myanmar to avoid violence, exercise maximum restraint, and be flexible, and seek a peaceful solution through constructive dialogue,” the statement said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that "the document adopted in Jakarta takes into account the interests and concerns of all participants in the internal political process in Myanmar and the implementation of its initiatives will contribute to resolving the situation."
Earlier today, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin was very concerned by whathappening in Myanmar,strongly condemns actions that lead to civilian casualties and supports the country's need to resolve its internal problems itself.
ASEAN Leaders' Summit
The summit took place on April 24 in Jakarta and focused on the situation in Myanmar, where more than 700 protesters have been killed in protests against the military's takeover and clashes with security forces, according to human rights activists.
