"Russia's new-generation attack submarine Husky will be equipped with unmanned aerial vehicles that can perform both military and civilian missions," Sputnik reported on December 18, citing a statement by the director of the Saint-Petersburg shipyard Oleg Vlasov.
According to Mr. Vlasov, in addition to unmanned aerial vehicles, the Husky submarine is also equipped with underwater robots to enhance reconnaissance capabilities and expand the ship's mission scope.
Husky is a 5th generation attack submarine planned to be developed and put into service by the Russian Navy in the period 2018-2025.
Currently, the technical specifications and weapons of the Husky submarine have not been made public by Russian officials, however, defense analyst Dave Majumdar of the National Interest believes that it is likely that this new submarine will be designed to maximize similarity with the Project 955A Borei-class ballistic missile submarines.
