Russia 'gives' 1 missile frigate, sells 64 MiG-29 to Egypt
On August 22, regional sources said that Russia had just signed a contract to sell 64 MiG-29 fighter jets (worth 2 billion USD) to Egypt. Previously, Moscow and Cairo signed a number of military weapons supply agreements worth a total of 3.5 billion USD.
Russia, the world's second-largest arms exporter, is working to strengthen military ties with Egypt.

The Egyptian military announced earlier this week that Moscow had donated a missile-equipped corvette to Cairo, which had earlier paraded during the inauguration of the new Suez Canal on August 6 as part of the opening ceremony.

In a related development, the Egyptian Presidential Office said that President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will visit Russia for three days, starting from August 25, to promote bilateral strategic relations and economic cooperation between the two countries. This is President El-Sisi's third visit to Russia in the past year.
Cairo and Moscow have begun to step up bilateral ties amid a rift in Egypt-US relations following the 2013 overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
