Russia informs US about Thunder nuclear exercise
(Baonghean.vn) - On October 25, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said that the US had received notice of Russia's annual nuclear exercise Grom (Thunder), in accordance with existing transparency commitments between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Pat Ryder confirmed: "The United States has been notified and as we have made clear before, this is an annual Russian exercise. Moscow's notification is in compliance with its arms control obligations and transparency commitments."

Russia will conduct the Grom exercise to test its nuclear-capable systems. The location of the exercise is not yet known.
Meanwhile, US officials said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will also conduct a similar exercise called Steadfast Noon at a location about 600 km from Russia.
The US believes that Russia's strategic nuclear forces may test-fire missiles during the Grom exercise. Under the terms of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) - the only remaining nuclear arms control treaty between Russia and the US - Moscow is obliged to notify in advance of missile launches.
