Russia successfully tested ICBM Sarmat
Russia's strategic missile forces have successfully tested a new generation silo used to launch the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The Russian Defense Ministry said the launch was carried out at the Dombarovsky base in the Orenburg region. During the test, the Russian Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) successfully launched an ICBM from a new launch silo to a target at the Kura test site in Kamchatka.
"The test launch is part of the program to test the new launch system at Yasny at the Dombarovsky base," said General Oleg Kislov, commander of the Kapustin Yar test center. Information related to the new launch system and the equipped ICBM are confidential, but according to Russian military sources, this launch system will be used to launch Sarmat missiles.

According to this source, the Sarmat missile has just completed the final testing process at the factory and is ready for its first test launch as planned in October 2017. The test will take place at the Plesetsk military base in northwestern Russia.
SMF revealed that if everything goes according to plan, the Sarmat ICBM will begin to be equipped with the Russian army from 2019. According to the equipment plan, the divisions of the Strategic Missile Forces (MSF) in the Krasnoyarsk and Orenburg regions are expected to be the first to receive the Sarmat missiles.
And by then, the US Prompt Global Strike strategy will be considered redundant. Speaking about the power of this new missile, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said that when the Sarmat ICBM is put into service, it will be a response to the "Prompt Global Strike" strategic initiative and will be able to overcome almost all US and Western missile defense systems.
According to Yuri Borisov, the development of the Sarmat ICBM is in the final stage. To solve the task, Russia is conducting many advanced research and experimental design work to cope with the global strike from the US.
Mr. Borisov also affirmed that by the end of 2020, Russia's strategic nuclear forces will be 100% re-equipped, not 70%. The development of the heavy ICBM Sarmat will be completed in 2018-2020 and the equipment will begin a year later.
Speaking about the special capabilities of Sarmat, Deputy Minister Yuri Borisov said that the missile can fly very far across Antarctica and force the US to build a very complex circular missile defense system.
In addition, the missile's large payload capacity allows it to be equipped with not only warheads, but also various missile defense breakthrough systems.
Mr. Borisov said that Sarmat will be a unique missile in the world, capable of overcoming almost any obstacle, any missile defense system and terrifying the enemy because it can attack through both the North and South Poles.
Russia's renewal of its strategic nuclear missile forces (currently equipped with Yars and Bulava ICBMs) is a response to the US "Prompt Global Strike" initiative.
The US's "Prompt Global Strike" strategic initiative envisages building strike weapons systems capable of launching non-nuclear strikes on any location on earth within 1 hour.
The tools to carry out such attacks will be deeply modernized ICBMs, hypersonic cruise missiles, as well as new-principle weapons (laser guns, electromagnetic rail guns, etc.). Currently, the parameters of the Sarmat ICBM are still kept secret by Russia, however, according to some sources, the Sarmat missile weighs 105 tons and is capable of carrying a 10-ton warhead.
