The Business Newspaper reported on March 26 that the fourth test launch of Russia's newest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) RS-26 Rubezh took place on March 18 and was considered successful.

The newspaper quoted Russian Defense Ministry sources as saying that the country's military is ready to put the missile into service in the near future and begin deployment early next year.

According to the source, "the test launch took place completely according to the regime, the missile captured the target with the set accuracy. The reliability of the systems and equipment was confirmed through the received radio parameters."

The Merchant newspaper noted that the US media has made accusations against Russia regarding the development of the RS-26 missile.

According to US experts, this type of missile has the features to attack targets at a distance of less than 5,500 km, and this is a violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

In response, Russia announced that the missile tests from Plesetsk to Kamchatka confirmed their intercontinental range, and that this was a new type of ICBM, under the Strategic Arms Treaty between Russia and the United States.

According to the Merchant newspaper, Russia's strategic missile force has many different missile systems, unlike the US, which only puts into combat one type of ICBM, the Minuteman II.

Rubezh is Russia's 8th intercontinental missile system./
