Last month, on October 21, a 30-year-old female assassin, Naida Asiyalova, from Dagestan, blew herself up on a bus, killing six people and injuring about 50. After the attack, police searched for Sokolov, the assassin’s husband, who is believed to be the main perpetrator of the crime.

On Saturday (November 16), Sokolov and a group of rebels clashed with security forces in the Dagestan capital Makhachkala, killing five gunmen, including Sokolov.

"During negotiations, Sokolov took responsibility for terrorist attacks, including the bus explosion in Volgograd," the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said in a statement.

According to authorities, Sokolove said he made the bomb used in the Volgograd suicide bombing. The statement did not disclose other attacks to which Sokolove confessed./.
