Russia and China to hold major missile defense exercise

The Russian and Chinese militaries will jointly hold computer-simulated missile defense exercises fromDecember 11-16 in Beijing in the contextThe two countries are concerned about the US deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system in South Korea, Reuters reported today.
China's Ministry of National Defense saidThe aim of the exercise is to practice defense coordination, as well as how to handle surprise and provocative attacks on the two countries' territories using cruise missiles and ballistic missiles..

Both China and Russia have repeatedly expressed their opposition to the US deployment of THAAD in South Korea, saying the system threatens their national security and does not contribute to easing tensions on the Korean peninsula. However, the USasserted that the THAAD defense system is simply to deal with the threat from North Korean missiles.
