The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on October 4 that it had deployed an S-300 air defense missile system to its naval base in Syria.

In a statement, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the state-of-the-art S-300 air defense missile system has been brought to Syria to ensure the safety of the country's Tartus naval base in Syria.

A day earlier, US media reported that for the first time, Russia sent the S-300 missile system to Syria - a Middle Eastern country that has been ravaged by war for more than 5 years.

US experts are concerned that Russia's deployment of S-300 missiles to Syria could greatly complicate US and allied air operations. They believe that the S-300 missiles could be a game-changer for all 4th generation aircraft (F-15, F-18, F-18) operating in Syria.

The information was released in the context of increasingly deteriorating relations between the US and Russia after the US announced that it would stop all cooperation with Russia on efforts to restore a ceasefire in Syria. Earlier the same day, the Russian government announced that it would continue to implement its anti-terrorism plan in Syria despite the US's disappointing decision.
