We are used to seeing black and white photographs from the old days. However, Mervyn O'Gorman took colour photographs 100 years ago using potato starch coated glass plates in 1913.

The technical name for color photography 100 years ago was autochrome. O'Gorman used it to take a photo of his daughter Christina in a red dress in the English countryside.

The photos of the little girl have not changed much over the past 10 centuries. It is not clear when these photos were taken.

The color photographs taken 100 years ago are not the invention or experience of the author. In fact, autochrome was patented in 1903 in France by the Lumier brothers.

Mervyn O'Gorman is considered one of the pioneers and one of the greatest British aeronautical engineers of the period.

Mervin died in 1958. His 1913 photographs of his daughter remain a fine example of the color photography that is often referred to.
