State Bank auctions more than 600 tons of scrap coins
The starting price for the batch of scrap coins is more than 48 billion VND, equivalent to 80,000 VND per kilogram.
The State Bank said it will auction more than 600 tons of scrap metal money after destruction, with a starting price of more than VND48 billion, excluding VAT and unloading and moving costs.

The above scrap has been analyzed and tested for chemical composition by the Technical Center for Standards, Metrology and Quality 1 (General Department of Metrology and Quality).
According to the requirements of the State Bank, property auction organizations wishing to register to participate must have sufficient facilities and equipment to ensure the auction, and have a feasible and effective auction plan.
This unit must have 5 years of experience or more, have at least 5 auctioneers with more than 5 years of experience and have a property auction contract of at least 45 billion VND in 2018.
Metal money began to circulate in late 2003 with the desire to have an automatic means of payment such as roadside beverage vending machines, buying train and bus tickets. However, after a few years, people began to "get bored" with it for countless reasons such as not being durable, small in size, difficult to preserve and keep in wallets.
Although coins remain a legal form of payment, all five denominations have gradually disappeared from circulation. In April 2011, the State Bank stopped issuing coins.
