Blocking Cam River from taking water to fight drought

At Bara Nam Dan, the water level fluctuates from 0.0-0.3m above the design water level of 1.15m, at the upstream of Ben Thuy sluice -0.1-0.1m above the design water level of 0.8m.

At Nghi Quang commune (Nghi Loc) -0.42m above the design water level of 0.7. Due to low water levels, pumping stations in the system must wait for high tide to operate. Most pumping stations can only operate for 2-5 hours a day.

Nghi Thuan Pumping Station No. 2 (Nghi Loc) cannot operate due to drought.

Nghi Thuan (Nghi Loc) fields are dry and waiting for irrigation water.

At present, localities in the region are focusing on summer-autumn crop production, the demand for water is very high, to ensure water for production, prevent saltwater intrusion deep into the fields, after reaching an agreement with Nghi Loc district, with the consensus of the Provincial People's Committee, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Irrigation Sub-Department, on June 5, Nam Irrigation Company blocked the Cam River at Cam Bridge to keep water in the system. The length of the dike is 130m, 7m high, 7m wide with the excavation volume of nearly 6,000 m3. The excavation will be completed on June 6. After blocking the flow, the water level in the system will be raised by 30-40cm, enough for the pumping stations to operate.
