'High on drugs', man holds plastic tube of water and threatens to 'shoot' police

On August 5, Le Dai Hanh Police Station, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, received a report from the people about a man holding a star to his neck and mumbling nonsense in the area near Thong Nhat Park.

Immediately, Le Dai Hanh Police Station coordinated with the Criminal Police Team, Police Team 113 - Hai Ba Trung District Police to arrive at the scene to handle the situation.

When arriving, the police force saw a tattooed man climbing over the wall and jumping into Thong Nhat Park.

To avoid dangerous incidents for people walking in the park, especially a kindergarten right next to the park fence, the police have blocked off the surrounding area for protection.

Being controlled and taken to the police station, Nguyen Tuan Anh continued to mumble nonsense.

Seeing the police, the man held a knife to his neck in one hand and a plastic pipe in the other, threatening to "shoot" anyone who came near.

The police force on one hand persuaded the subject to put down the weapon, on the other hand deployed forces waiting for a favorable opportunity to quickly control him. After nearly 1 hour, the subject was controlled and taken to Le Dai Hanh Police Station.

At Le Dai Hanh Police Station, the suspect's identity was clarified as Nguyen Tuan Anh, born in 1976, residing at 118 Tan Ap, Phuc Xa Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. Here, the suspect continued to mumble nonsense.

Immediately after hearing the news, Ms. NA (Tuan Anh’s sister) went to the headquarters at Le Dai Hanh Police Station to work. According to her, Tuan Anh is not married, has a history of drug and alcohol addiction for about 5 or 6 years, and is currently living with his parents.

At home, whenever Tuan Anh gets into a drug habit, he often plays loud music, sometimes yells loudly, and every time he does this, his family members run away until Tuan Anh sobers up again.

“One day, the whole family was sitting downstairs when they heard Tuan Anh say loudly from the attic, “Flying here.” The whole family was so scared that they thought he had jumped down from above. When they ran upstairs, it turned out he was releasing a bird,” said Ms. NA.

Currently, the investigation agency is detaining the subject for verification and handling.
