(Baonghean.vn) - Since the morning of October 17, the local government and people of Hung Nhan commune have promptly moved their assets and livestock to the Lam dike or flood shelters; more than 1,000 students in the area have been given a day off from school.
As of 9am on October 18, the water level in the commune had reached 3m in some places, 400/946 households were completely isolated. Currently, the high tide is still coming and the water level is still rising rapidly. Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoan - Chairman of Hung Nhan commune said: "Since yesterday morning, the commune's Flood and Storm Prevention Committee has been actively responding to the flood with the people, so far the damage has reached 2 billion VND. Fortunately, in the area, 50 poor households have been supported by the State with flood shelters, so so far there have been no human casualties."
Like Hung Nhan commune, Hung Loi commune has 5 hamlets located outside the dike, of which 4 hamlets have been deeply flooded. People have moved their cattle, buffaloes and some properties to Dike 42. Currently, the local government is directly monitoring the water level and flood developments to promptly have a response plan.
The authorities and people of the two communes are directing people to come up with plans to move livestock and property to higher places to minimize damage. According to the experience of the people of Hung Nhan commune, the water will not recede until October 19.
