January 17, 1960:The day of the uprising of the Ben Tre people. Under the leadership of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee, the people of Dinh Thuy, Phuoc Hiep, and Binh Khanh communes of Mo Cay district rose up to attack the outposts, destroy the villains, dissolve the enemy government, and seize control of the villages and communes. From those three communes, the uprising spread throughout Mo Cay district and Ben Tre province. Then, the "Dong Khoi" movement broke out like a dam bursting throughout the South, the Central Highlands, and some places in the Central Central region.
