(Baonghean.vn) - "Mother's Day" is defined as the second Sunday of May. "Mother's Day" has now spread to more than 65 countries around the world, an occasion for children to express their good feelings to their beloved mothers who gave birth to them and raised them to be adults.

History of Mother's Day!

In 1870, Julia Ward Howe's "The Mother's Day Proclamation" was one of the first calls to honor mothers in the United States. It strongly influenced Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis, a woman in West Virginia. Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis founded a group called "Mother's Day" with the sole desire to reconnect family ties that had been torn apart by the Civil War.

After her group was formed, she wanted to hold an annual memorial day to remember the memories of mothers, but unfortunately, she died before making this wish come true. Her daughter, Anna Jarvis, continued her mother's idea.

Finally, after much effort, Anna Jarvis organized the first "Mother's Day" celebration at St. Andrews Methodist Church in 1908 when she brought 500 carnations to each mother attending mass at St. Andrew's Church, where her mother had taught school.

Along with Anna Jarvis's own memorial service, families gathered at multiple locations for the event in Jarvis' hometown of Grafton, West Virginia, and several other cities.

On May 8, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson of the United States signed a resolution designating the second Sunday of May as "Mother's Day", officially recognizing "Mother's Day" as one of the important celebrations of the country's citizens. And today "Mother's Day" has spread throughout the world.
