Student festival with homeland sea and islands 2012

On October 21, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union coordinated with the Diplomatic Academy to organize the 2012 "Student Festival with the Sea, Islands and Homeland", with the participation of nearly 1,000 youth and students in the capital.

This activity aims to propagate, educate and orient the youth and students of the capital about the love for the sea and islands, the responsibility in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands; to foster feelings and raise the responsibility of youth and students in sharing, helping and participating in activities towards compatriots, soldiers and children in the border and island areas. At the same time, to raise the responsibility and duty of the youth of the whole country in participating in socio-economic development, maintaining the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Thanh Lam, Head of the Central Propaganda Department of the Youth Union, said that over the past four years, the program "Youth Journey for the Homeland's Sea and Islands" organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with the Navy has brought more than 400 outstanding young people, students, artists, reporters, businessmen, and young doctors to visit the soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district and DK1 platform.

From the trips, many propaganda contents about the sea, islands and youth projects of great social significance were carried out such as "Contributing stones to build Truong Sa", "Accompanying young fishermen to go to sea", "Lighting up DK platform", "Fresh water for Truong Sa"...

In particular, the program "Contribute stones to build Truong Sa" has so far received contributions from hundreds of thousands of groups and individuals, with an amount of more than 42 billion VND.

After the opening ceremony, an exhibition with the theme “Youth Journey for the Homeland’s Sea and Islands” took place. The exhibition displayed and introduced 80 photos, along with articles, diaries, poems, and music by young people, students, and reporters who participated in the “Youth Journey for the Homeland’s Sea and Islands” over the past 4 years.

“Student Festival with the sea and islands of the homeland” also has many rich and meaningful activities such as students writing letters to visit soldiers on remote islands.

The film screening program “Truong Sa – Young People’s Perspective” with 2 films “Truong Sa – Green Town” and “Truong Sa, Oh” edited and directed by two journalists Diem Quynh and Nghiem Nhan (Vietnam Television), recorded in the most authentic way the emotions of mainlanders who set foot on Truong Sa…

The highlight of the program is the cultural exchange program “Truong Sa Diary” as a gratitude from the youth and students of the capital to the officers and soldiers on duty at Truong Sa archipelago and DK platform; at the same time, it is an opportunity for young people who have been to Truong Sa to share their memories and feelings./.
