Career counseling day
From March 6 to 27, the "career counseling and enrollment festival" organized by the Provincial Youth Development Support Center in coordination with the district youth union and a number of universities and colleges in Yen Thanh, Tan Ky, Cua Lo and Dien Chau attracted thousands of students to participate.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a 12th grade student at Le Doan Nha Private High School in Yen Thanh, happily said: "We are about to submit our application for the exam, so we are very confused. However, coming here and having many questions answered, I know which path I should choose to start my career." Many students from the rice fields who came to the "Career Counseling Day" also had the same joy.
It can be said that this was truly a "festival" with nearly a thousand 12th grade students from 4 schools: Phan Dang Luu High School, Yen Thanh 2 High School, Le Doan Nha Private High School and Yen Thanh District Continuing Education Center. The hall of the District Cultural Center was full, nearly 20 computers with multiple choice programs were always crowded with students.

The admission and career counseling fair attracted the attention of students in Yen Thanh. |
The number of schools participating in the festival was quite large, including Vinh University, College of Culture and Arts, Vinh University of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Nghe An College of Economics and Technology, and Vietnam-Germany Vocational Technical College.
Each school has its own display booth, with full leaflets containing information about the school, training groups, enrollment targets, training systems, admission requirements, and even very specific information such as the school's cultural activities, tuition fees, uniform regulations, etc.
Mr. Le Van Hong - Secretary of Yen Thanh District Youth Union excitedly said: Yen Thanh is one of the districts with many high schools. The whole district has 11 schools (including the district Continuing Education Center), each school has an average of 500-600 graduates/year.
Up to now, career orientation and job counseling have been paid attention to but still have many limitations. Most students only consult information through family, friends, teachers and the Internet.
However, due to being a purely agricultural area, students have not had much opportunity to access information online. This is the first time in Yen Thanh that there is a consultation day with all the necessary information. Along with a large amount of documents and a team of consultants, coming to this festival, students also have full access to issues related to the upcoming exam.
Mr. Hong added that after this enrollment fair, the District Youth Union will continue to coordinate with a number of schools to organize enrollment counseling activities in clusters, to help students in all schools effectively access information in choosing majors and schools to take exams, in which in addition to enrollment counseling, special attention is also paid to career counseling.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh - Director of the Provincial Youth Development Support Center said: According to statistics, Nghe An has about 40,000 students graduating from high schools every year. In developed countries, after graduating from high school, 50% of students will go to universities and 50% will go to vocational training.
However, in our country in general and Nghe An in particular, currently only about 10% choose to go to vocational school. That has greatly affected the training stream and the development of human resources needed for the country.
Up to now, the Provincial Youth Union has organized many activities on career counseling, but since 2010, this activity has just been opened, by coordinating with universities, colleges, vocational schools, Youth Unions of districts and the Provincial Career Center to organize career counseling and enrollment days.
In the coming time, the Center will continue to have more exciting and practical activities in enrollment consulting, career guidance and help young people have more opportunities through job introduction days.
