Vietnam Law Day November 9: Let the Law "permeate" into people's awareness

2014 is the second year that the Law Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (November 9) is celebrated. Talking to the press on the sidelines of the National Assembly, many delegates said that after 1 year of implementing the Law on Dissemination and Education of Law (Law Dissemination and Education), the provision on “Law Day” has truly been a highlight for the work of disseminating and educating the law in many localities across the country. However, the opinions also showed the delegates’ concerns and worries about how to make every day of the year a law day, and everyone lives and works according to the Constitution and the law.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu: “Having a Law Day to honor and respect the law is extremely meaningful with the hope that everyone will be imbued with the law to serve the cause of national development. When there is faith in the law and civilized behavior, social and national management will be smooth, contributing to the country's increasingly sustainable development.”

Chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee Phan Trung Ly: "2014 is the first year of implementing the 2013 Constitution, requiring efforts and joint efforts to strengthen the socialist legal system, ensure human rights and citizen rights, in which the important task is to build a complete and synchronous legal system, ensuring constitutionality and legality.

Therefore, Law Day is a valuable opportunity to express gratitude, exchange and learn practical work experiences to do better work, aiming to honor the values ​​of the Constitution and the law, striving not only on Law Day but also 365 days a year and all years, all individuals, agencies and organizations strictly respect and comply with the Constitution and the law according to the slogan "living and working according to the Constitution and the law".

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Social Affairs Le Nhu Tien: To make Law Day more meaningful in life, in addition to strengthening coordination between functional agencies and media agencies to promote legal propaganda, the most practical thing to do is to do a good job of reviewing whether the law is in practice or not, which documents need to be amended, supplemented, and even which documents need to be abolished because law making does not only renew, amend, and supplement but also abolishes documents that are no longer suitable.

Only then can the law effectively manage society, ensure the legitimate rights of individuals, organizations, and the State, and make individuals and organizations voluntarily comply, contributing to building a stable society.

Delegate Le Nam (Thanh Hoa): When meeting with voters, I see that voters still complain that "there are many laws in our country but many are not enforced", so I hope that those who work in the field of legal dissemination and education (LEP) should spend more time to reflect on how to disseminate and educate the law so that the law can reach more people, faster, and "stay" with the people longer. In fact, how to disseminate and educate the law so that people can "absorb" the law is a very large topic that needs to be studied deeply and from many angles, but has never been officially put on the agenda. We realize that with traditional methods of LEP, we need to constantly innovate and update changes in life to have appropriate methods, avoiding just making the report "pretty" while people still do not have access to legal knowledge in a complete and timely manner. This will lose the meaning and role of LEP and this very special "Law Day".

With the Law Day being legalized and implemented in the past year, I think that legal dissemination and education should pay more attention to how to propagate legal information to make people "absorb" it, such as information related to social ethics.
