The first day of the national high school exam: "Candidates" and their relatives have "less" pressure
(Baonghean) - After taking the Math and Foreign Language exams on the first day of the exam (yesterday, July 1), most candidates and their parents were able to breathe a sigh of relief because the exam was within their ability and highly classified. Average candidates can achieve the score to graduate, good and excellent candidates all have hope of achieving high scores. Today (July 2), candidates entered the second day of the exam with a more confident and excited mentality....
National exam cluster: Less pressure
It can be said that candidates in Vinh exam cluster are well taken care of by the community. From early morning on the first exam day, volunteer teams were on duty at all exam locations to pick up and drop off, help candidates store their belongings, and distribute water and milk to "reinforce" the candidates. Immediately after each exam, volunteers directly brought hats, fans and umbrellas, and took the "candidates" to their families. Despite the hardships of countless unnamed tasks, student Dao Hoai Nam, Faculty of Geography, Natural Resources Management happily said: "I feel very comfortable because my work, though small, has shared some of the hardships and stress with the candidates. At Huynh Thuc Khang High School exam cluster, although he is a high school student, every year the School Union organizes a volunteer team to support right at the school. In addition to taking care of vehicles, keeping belongings, and providing free water, the students also bring musical instruments to entertain and help the candidates' families reduce the anxiety of waiting."

Math is the first subject and it is also one of the four compulsory subjects. Waiting for their children at the exam gate, each relative has a different mood. Vo Thi Nga and Tran Van Duong in Quynh Luu could not sleep all night. Worried about their child, the couple told each other to leave at 4am and then sat at the exam site for more than 3 hours. She confided: "My child is at my sister's house, when I called him he told me not to worry, he can go by himself. But before the first important exam of his life, why can't my parents take care of him!"...
Although there were still nearly 30 minutes left until the end of the exam, at the Le Viet Thuat High School exam site, parents were standing in the sun, their eyes fixed on the school gate. Some people comforted themselves by saying that their children were worried about leaving early, or worried about leaving late. If it was too early, it might be because they couldn't do the test... At this exam site, candidate Nguyen Van Huy, a student at Tan Ky High School, was one of the first candidates to leave. Talking about this year's exam, Huy said: This is a good exam, good students can easily get 7-8 points. In which, the easiest questions are about algebra, finding max, min values, calculating probability. However, there are 2 very difficult questions, with high classification, which are question 8 about geometry and question 10, the inequality to find the largest and smallest values...
At the exam site of Ha Huy Tap High School (Vinh City), Ha Thi Hoa said that the Math test was not difficult, the knowledge was mainly in textbooks and the 12th grade program. It was not difficult for students with average academic performance to achieve a score of 5. "I got 7 points, although the result was not as expected, I will try harder in the following subjects," Hoa confided. Question number 6, although it only had a phrase about the MERS-CoV epidemic, surprised many candidates. "The exam is increasingly close to current events. We believe that other exam subjects will have the same content," a male student of Dang Thai Mai High School, Thanh Chuong District happily said.

Candidates after completing the exam at the exam site of Huynh Thuc Khang High School. |
In the afternoon, the English test was considered quite long, but candidates were still excited because there were many good questions, referring to many current and social issues such as the MERS epidemic - a dangerous respiratory syndrome that is spreading rapidly in Asia; the population explosion; environmental pollution or the "super swimmer" - athlete Anh Vien at the 28th Sea Games. Besides, there were topics that were very close to students such as libraries, the benefits of reading books... These are topics that have been taught a lot in the textbook program, so if candidates review carefully, they can do well on the test.
Evaluating the first day of the exam, Professor, Doctor Dinh Xuan Khoa, Principal of Vinh University, Chairman of the Examination Council of Examination Cluster No. 25 affirmed: “This is the first exam, the number of candidates is large, there are many issues that we have just started to approach and get familiar with. However, the first day of the exam was very successful and there were no unusual problems. I also highly appreciate the spirit of wholeheartedly helping the candidates of all forces. This is a good tradition of the Vinh examination cluster and has shared a lot with the candidates and their families”.
"Relieved" in local exam clusters
While more than 37,000 candidates in the national high school exam cluster No. 25 took the exam with the hope of becoming new students next year, more than 12,000 other candidates took the exam with the purpose of being considered for high school graduation. Before the exam took place, many candidates were nervous because of the new points of the national high school exam. However, according to the reporter's records, candidates in local exam clusters were all satisfied and relieved after the first day of the exam.
From early morning, many candidates from many communes in Que Phong district came to the exam site of Que Phong High School to avoid the harsh sunlight and to be on time for the exam. 21 candidates from remote communes who wished to stay at school for the convenience of taking the exam were provided accommodation by the school right in the dormitory area of the school. This exam site has 204 candidates, including 177 candidates from Que Phong High School and 27 candidates from the district's Continuing Education Center. Their goal is to pass the graduation exam, then choose a vocational school that is suitable for their academic ability, their family's economic conditions, and is practical for future career development. Although the 180 minutes for the Math exam have not yet been completed, many candidates have submitted their papers and left the exam room because this year's exam is quite difficult for students with average academic ability and high classification.
Student Lang Thi Thao (Class 12A13 - Que Phong High School) said that the exam had 10 questions but she could only do the first 5 questions, which were mainly algebra. As for questions 5 to 10, geometry, analysis, and broad knowledge were related to the 10th and 11th grade programs that had just been improved to differentiate candidates, so she could only do one idea for each question. However, because I only wanted to graduate, I was quite satisfied with my exam results." Sharing the same opinion, Vang Anh Tuan (born in 1977), in charge of land administration in Chau Thang commune, Quy Chau district, one of the older candidates taking the exam this year at Que Phong High School, said that the exam was for all candidates who wanted to graduate and also for university and college admission, so the questions were difficult of course, but in the 10 questions, there were still questions suitable for the level of candidates who wanted to only graduate. "I also completed about 4 questions and a few ideas of the other questions, so I hope I will have enough points to graduate. Hopefully, the Literature and 2 elective subjects will be close to the textbook program, creating favorable conditions for candidates who only want to graduate like us to do well in our exams," Tuan confided.

The first exam day took place seriously, the town police force, ward police were on duty regularly to ensure absolute safety throughout the exam.
Despite the hot weather, the candidates were still happy after finishing the first exams. Nguyen Thi Ha, a 12th grader at Bac Quynh Luu High School, shared: This year, the graduation exam has been innovated, the test time is relatively long, so we have more time to think and calculate carefully. I finished the test about 20 minutes early, then reviewed the test. This year's Math test was not too difficult, the questions were all within the knowledge we have learned, if we have a firm grasp of the knowledge, it will be very easy to do the test. I am also confident that I will pass the Foreign Language exam." Ho Van Thanh, a 12th grade A2 student at Hoang Mai High School, said that the exam questions for Math and English are suitable for our learning ability. This type of question has been given by teachers a lot in class. Therefore, when taking the exam, we apply the Math solving method we have learned to do the test. I myself got 70-80% of the Math exam and about 6 points for the English exam." On the first day of the exam, Hoang Mai High School had 2 candidates who did not come to the exam: Ho Thi Huong Giang, a student at Quynh Luu 3 High School and Ho Ba Truong, a student at Bac Quynh Luu High School.
At Nam Dan I High School, nearly 600 candidates in Nam Dan district also completed the first day of the exam in a quite relaxed mood. On the first day of the exam, except for 4 cases who did not participate in the exam for unknown reasons, the other candidates confidently affirmed that they had completed all the questions. This exam site was safe, serious, and in accordance with regulations, with no cheating reported.
At other testing sites such as Nghia Dan and Thai Hoa Town, candidates were also excited and felt relieved after the first day of testing. Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan, Deputy Chief of Office of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, said that on the first day of testing, at the testing site of Anh Son 1 High School, there was a minor incident when Ngo Thi Phuong fainted after submitting her Math test. Phuong was then transferred to the District General Hospital for treatment and by this afternoon her health had stabilized, but she was still hospitalized and did not take the English test. At the end of the first day of testing, the entire local cluster of the province had 32 absent candidates, no candidates violated the rules, and no invigilators violated the rules.
Reporter Group
Dr. Le Xuan Son, Vice Principal of Vinh University High School for the Gifted: The Math exam is close to the instructions and sample questions of the Ministry, basically suitable for the majority of candidates. In addition, there are 4 questions to evaluate good and excellent students, which are questions 8 - 10, in which the most difficult is question 10, followed by questions 8 and 9. Good students who have reviewed thoroughly can do question 9. Question 10 is a classification question, but it is interesting and not too difficult, does not challenge good students to find the solution, which will be more natural, compared to the difficult questions of last year. Question 6, has updated practical knowledge, is relevant to current MERS disease. Teacher Nguyen Quang Trung, English teacher, Vinh University High School for the Gifted: The English exam is more difficult than the graduation exam in previous years. The questions to classify good and excellent students mainly focus on reading passages and require candidates to have a rich vocabulary, because there are 3 passages related to 3 different topics about population explosion, environment, and libraries. Questions about sentence structure, error correction, and rewriting sentences also require a lot of knowledge... With a time limit of 90 minutes, this exam is too long, because there are 69 questions and an essay about the benefits of reading books that requires 140 words. However, the exam is also good because it is topical, updating outstanding events in the country and the world... |
