With sacred feelings about the Fatherland expressed in such a solemn space and time, the Spring Poetry Day of Quy Ty has become a cultural meeting place for poetry lovers, a special festival that leaves a deep impression on the hearts of young Vietnamese intellectuals.
Echoes of the soul of mountains and rivers
Entering the Tam Quan gate of the Temple of Literature, even though trying to hold back their emotions, visitors still feel excited and moved by the beautiful poems written on bright red silk decorated along the entrance.
The green of the leaves, the bright red of the silk and the brilliant yellow of the flowers intertwine, creating a bustling, joyful atmosphere of a festival, making everyone present feel as if “the national color is shining brightly”… in the yard of the Temple of Literature.
With the theme “Spring-Country,” a whole traditional poetry space was opened solemnly and bustlingly.
The poetry procession named “Dragon and Snake Up to the Clouds” with the participation of 120 artists from the Vietnam Cheo Theater and the Vietnam Tuong Theater revived the national spirit. Vietnam Poetry Day became a festival with green parasols, rituals, traditional costumes combined with the echoes of drums, poetry flags, and majestic octet orchestras…
“The mountains and rivers of the South belong to the Southern Emperor/ Their fate is clearly determined in the book of heaven/ How could the rebellious come and encroach upon them/ You should all wait and see if they are defeated…” The poem resounded like thunder, and the space of the Temple of Literature seemed to quiet down… Immediately after that, the blessing of praying for “national peace and people’s safety” and the reading of poetry by Venerable Thich Truong Xuan, abbot of Long Dau Pagoda (in the Thay Pagoda complex) also created an interesting highlight for this year’s poetry day.

Attending Vietnam Poetry Day 2013, Mr. Nguyen Hoa (Cau Giay) said: “It has become a tradition that every year on the 15th day of the first lunar month, I bring my grandchild to attend the poetry festival. Living in that atmosphere, the younger generation will understand and appreciate more the traditions and spiritual values that have been passed down through many generations.”
Vietnam Poetry Day, as poet Huu Thinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, commented, is one of the few festivals of the new era, not a traditional festival like most festivals in our country.
“After a 10-year journey, from the initial, rudimentary and simple experiments, to date, Vietnam Poetry Day has become an elegant cultural festival, attracting many generations of poets and poetry lovers across the country,” the poet emphasized.
Poet Huu Thinh added: At the same time as the opening of the 11th Vietnamese Poetry Day rang out at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam this morning, the drumbeat to open the Quy Ty Spring Poetry Festival 2013 also rang out at 100 cultural venues across the country.
Youth preference
Young people are considered the main subjects in both poetry stages. According to poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, this is one of the new features of this year's Poetry Day. The organizing committee invited young writers to be the main force and selected special performances by students from various schools to perform in the main festival taking place this morning, February 24.

Accompanying the poetry "seeds" this year is the group "Link Huong Cuu Kiem" consisting of nine poets from all over the country whose quality works have recently resonated. They sang together with performances by university students on the big theme "Youth with the Fatherland."
In addition, each university participating in this year's Poetry Day has its own poetry shop, displaying poems introducing the country, people of Vietnam and its own school.
The song “Flying over the East Sea” by musician Le Viet Khanh, performed by the band M4U and the hip-hop dance performance by the dance group Mania, “heated up” the 2013 Young Poetry Stage on the morning of the 15th day of the first lunar month (February 24).
