Nghe An: 18 localities are considering temporarily suspending receiving workers to work in Korea
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 4, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs issued Official Dispatch No. 1665 to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities regarding the suspension of receiving workers to work in Korea under the EPS program in 2018.

According to this document, nationwide there are 107 districts (in 12 provinces and centrally-run cities) with a rate of workers whose contracts have expired and who do not return home of over 30%, which are subject to consideration for temporary suspension of recruitment in 2018.
Based on the commitment between Vietnam and Korea in sending workers to work under the EPS program; among these 107 districts, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has temporarily suspended labor recruitment in 2018 for 49 districts with the number of illegal workers residing in Korea of 60 or more.

Previously, the two sides agreed to review the situation and data of illegal workers in districts/towns/cities of Vietnam's provinces according to the roadmap and goals stated in the MOU annually.
Based on this data, the Korean side requested Vietnam to temporarily suspend the recruitment of new workers (workers who have never worked in Korea under the EPS Program) for 1 year in localities where the rate of workers whose contracts have expired and who do not return home and the number of illegal residents are higher than the level committed in the Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides.
According to this list, Nghe An has the following 18 localities under consideration for temporary suspension in 2018: Nghi Loc, Vinh City, Cua Lo Town, Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Thanh Chuong, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Quynh Luu, Tan Ky, Nghia Dan, Thai Hoa Town, Quy Chau, Que Phong, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Ky Son.

This document also clearly states: based on the Korean side's announcement on the number and rate of illegal workers at the end of 2018, recruitment will continue to be suspended in 2019 in localities that cannot reduce the rate of illegal workers, and the suspension will be lifted for localities that can reduce the rate and number of illegal workers in Korea.
