(Baonghean.vn) - On June 20 and 21, 4 consecutive forest fires occurred in Nghe An, with a total area of ​​nearly 20 hectares.

Specifically, on June 20, a forest fire broke out in Nghi Yen and Nghi Dong communes (Nghi Loc), damaging an area of ​​about 6 hectares.

On June 21, a forest fire in Cong Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) damaged about 3.7 hectares of pine forest. From there, the fire spread to Thuong Son commune, Do Luong; by 1:00 p.m. on June 22, the fire was extinguished.

On the same day, June 21, a forest fire also broke out in Hamlet 14, Khanh Son Commune, Nam Dan District. It was not until 4:00 a.m. on June 22 that the fire was extinguished; estimated damage was about 6 hectares of pine forest.

According to the report of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, the damage is estimated at nearly 20 hectares of pine forest.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Head of Forest Protection Department, Provincial Forest Protection Department said: Currently, the weather is continuing to be hot and dry, the southwest wind is blowing strongly, the risk of forest fires is very high. For old fire spots, the Forest Protection Department has directed local forest rangers to coordinate with the militia and self-defense forces of communes to guard forest fires; promptly handle incidents when they occur.

Specifically, since June 21, Thuong Son commune, Do Luong has mobilized over 150 people, including officials from organizations and local residents, to extinguish the ashes, clear vegetation, and repair some firebreaks in areas at risk of fire.

Currently, the Forest Protection Department is coordinating with local authorities in areas with large forest areas to continue to focus on propaganda, mobilization, and development of on-site plan 4, inspecting, urging, and strictly managing the use of fire in forests and forest edges. Assigning specific responsibilities to commune leaders, forest owners, and local forest rangers to closely follow the grassroots to advise on forest fire prevention and fighting./.
