Nghe An: 240 hectares of biosafety shrimp farming
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An has 165 households raising brackish shrimp according to biosafety procedures (ATSH), VietGAP, with an area of 240 hectares of ponds, each year supplying the market with 1,800 - 2,000 tons of safe commercial shrimp.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, owner of 3 hectares of shrimp ponds in the VietGAP area of Quynh Luong commune (Quynh Luu), said that although ATSH shrimp farming requires a lot of investment in infrastructure, ponds, etc., it reduces costs in the care process, reduces disease in shrimp, and significantly reduces environmental pollution in the shrimp farming area. Therefore, shrimp productivity is always stable. From these 3 hectares of shrimp ponds, Mr. Thang harvests over 20 tons of commercial shrimp each year, not to mention that he also uses 2,000 m2to raise shrimp crop 3 for significant harvest.

With the support of the Coastal Resources Project for Sustainable Development, in recent years, the Department of Fisheries has implemented the construction of 7 ATSH shrimp farming areas with an area of 240 hectares of 165 shrimp farming households in the following localities: Quynh Xuan Ward, Quynh Di, Quynh Loc Commune (Hoang Mai Town); Quynh Bang, Quynh Thanh, Quynh Luong Commune (Quynh Luu); Dien Trung Commune (Dien Chau).
Every year, 7 biosafety farming areas supply the market with 1,800 - 2,000 tons of commercial farmed shrimp, ensuring food safety.
Mr. Tran Xuan Quang - Head of Aquaculture Department (Department of Fisheries) said: This main shrimp crop, all 240 hectares of ATSH shrimp ponds in the province will be raised according to VietGAP process. Up to this point, shrimp farmers have stocked about 230/240 hectares, the remaining 10 hectares were stocked later, because the area of this pond is used for shrimp farming in the third crop so it has not been harvested in time.

Mr. Quang said: Shrimp farming according to ATSH process aims to minimize the risk of disease, save production costs, increase productivity and production efficiency. At the same time, create products that ensure quality and food safety to meet the needs and tastes of consumers.
Shrimp farming households are trained in knowledge of food safety, VietGAP, and State regulations; and have access to technical farming processes to ensure disease safety, food safety, and environmental safety. Therefore, farmers are more responsible for protecting the common environment and producing safe products to serve the consumption needs of domestic and export markets.
