These 7 men, aged from 32 to 51, all from Ngoc Lac district (Thanh Hoa), came to Thai Son commune (Do Luong), and have been working for many days to exploit acacia trees. On the evening of October 15, 7 people were taken to Do Luong District General Hospital in a state of severe abdominal pain, vomiting, dizziness...
"According to the initial statements of the patients, they worked in the forest so they went to pick up the leaves of the vằng plant to cook and drink. However, because the leaves of the vằng plant are similar to the poison ivy plant, they picked the wrong one. By the time one person discovered the poison ivy plant, it was too late," added Dr. Le Duc Hai.
However, Dr. Nguyen Van Thuy - Head of the Anti-Poison Department (Nghe An General Hospital) said that it is likely that this group of 7 people were not poisoned by aconite.
"Currently, the 7 patients are being treated at the Poison Control Department. Their health has stabilized and their lives are no longer in danger. Through examination, the symptoms of the 7 patients are not similar to those of people poisoned by aconite. The pictures of the tree from which they picked the leaves to drink later are not very similar," said Mr. Thuy.
The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
