Nghe An: 9X Youth Union Secretary collects hundreds of millions of dong from VACR

(Baonghean.vn) – Born in a poor countryside, without the conditions to study properly, Ho Van Phong (born in 1992), secretary of the Youth Union branch 3,Ngoc Son mountainous commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An has constantly strived, overcome difficulties to become rich on its homeland from the garden, pond, barn, and forest (VACR) model.

With 1 hectare of forest, Phong planted acacia interspersed with cassava to have a source of food for livestock.

Settling in the village

Born and raised in a poor farming family with 4 siblings, due to difficult circumstances, after graduating from secondary school, Phong asked to drop out of school to stay home and help his parents raise livestock and poultry. At that time, Phong's family only raised livestock on a small scale with small quantities, and with frequent epidemics, income was always unstable.

Realizing that his health was getting worse and he was no longer able to continue working, Phong's parents handed over the land and livestock to him. With favorable terrain and spacious land, in 2012, Phong boldly invested tens of millions of dong to upgrade the garden, pond, barn, and forest model.

Ho Van Phong's farm regularly raises nearly 1,000 sugarcane chickens.

He planned 3,000 m2 to dig a pond for fish, 200 m2 to build a pig pen, 2,500 m2 to grow fruit trees such as longan and lychee. With 4 hectares of forest previously owned by his family, Phong renovated and planted acacia, of which 1 hectare he planted cassava mixed with acacia to provide food for raising fish and livestock and poultry.

Ho Van Phong said: "In the process of raising livestock, in addition to learning more about experience, I was also given the opportunity by the organization and commune to participate in veterinary training classes, so I know how to prevent and avoid disease outbreaks."

Every year, Phong’s farm has nearly 1,000 sugarcane hybrid chickens, each batch raises 40 pigs and sells over 1 ton of fish. With his hard-working hands and daring spirit, from a poor family, he has now become a well-off household with an income of 150 million VND/year.

Dynamic Youth Leader

As a branch secretary, he is aware that he must always strive to complete all assigned tasks well and be a role model in all movements for union members to follow.

Most of the rural youth union members go to work far away, the rest stay at home and are not interested in union work, so gathering young people into the organization is very difficult.

Therefore, every time he organizes activities, he always combines them with youth activities such as football, volleyball, cultural and artistic exchanges, organizing volunteer activities for community life, etc. Thanks to that, the awareness of the members is clearly raised and more and more young people are attracted to join the organization.

Ho Van Phong regularly organizes the Youth Union to carry out pioneering activities for community life.

In addition, he also mobilized donations to support the fund to give gifts, visit and encourage poor households, lonely elderly people, students with difficult circumstances, and families with preferential policies during the holidays. With these positive activities, every year, the commune's Youth Union evaluates Branch 3 as having excellently completed its tasks.
