Nghe An: VietGAP livestock farming is dominant
(Baonghean) - The livestock food market serving this year's Lunar New Year in the province is assessed to be diverse, abundant, clean and safe. Currently, many livestock farms are "full" of orders.
Raising wild boars, "carrying" hundreds of millions of dong
Thanks to the large hilly land fund of more than 30 hectares, Bui Hoang Ngan's family in Hamlet 2, Huong Son Commune, Tan Ky District has invested in raising wild boars for the past 10 years. Currently, the family focuses on taking care of more than 100 wild boars, including 50 pigs for meat, serving the Tet market. Mr. Ngan said that with the large hilly land, he invested in planting acacia. When the acacia forest grows well, he takes advantage of raising chickens and pigs under the forest canopy to "take the short term to feed the long term". By taking advantage of natural food sources, along with by-products from agricultural production, the food source is guaranteed to be clean. With the method of raising them on the hills during the day and in cages at night, the chickens and pigs are firm, delicious, and of good quality.
Mr. Ngan excitedly added: With 50 breeding pigs, breeding all year round, raising as many as he can, without having to buy outside breeding pigs, the meat quality is always guaranteed. Therefore, the wild pigs he raises are sold at 150,000 VND/kg (live pigs), customers place orders continuously throughout the year. As for the 50 pigs reserved for sale during Tet, customers have already ordered all of them. On average, each pig weighs 15 kg, so this Tet, Mr. Ngan's family has an income of over 100 million VND, not including the money from selling chickens and geese.

VietGAP chicken flock increases
For the past 3-4 months, many farm owners and chicken farms in the province have stepped up their breeding to serve the Tet market. At the VietGAP Livestock Cooperative in Dien Trung Commune (Dien Chau), large-scale chicken farms have increased their flocks to serve the year-end market. Mr. Cao Van Thanh in Hamlet 2a, Dien Trung Commune - owner of a chicken farm with a scale of 4,600 chickens/batch said: Realizing that the demand for chickens during Tet will increase sharply, his family has boldly invested in a larger quantity than planned and expects that the consumption of this hybrid chicken breed will be favorable at the end of the year... Currently, his flock of chickens has reached a weight of over 1.2 kg/chicken, and it is expected that by Tet, the weight will reach over 1.5 kg/chicken, in line with customer demand.
Currently, Dien Trung Commune VietGAP Livestock Cooperative has 187 households raising chickens, of which 142 households are recognized to raise according to VietGAP process. Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa - Director of the Cooperative said: During Tet, the Cooperative plans to sell 66 thousand chickens to the market, equivalent to about 100 tons of chicken meat. Currently, members are actively taking care of and preventing diseases to ensure a quality source of goods for the market.

Unusual weather and climate changes have caused significant damage to livestock farmers in 2017. Therefore, the Lunar New Year is the expectation of many individuals, businesses, and cooperatives engaged in raising, processing, and consuming livestock products. With the high demand for food consumption during Tet, careful preparation of quality goods will be a good opportunity to affirm the "position" of commodity-oriented livestock farming.
