Nghe An province directs proactive measures to respond to heavy rain and the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

In anticipation of heavy rainfall in the coming days, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, and Civil Defense of Nghe An province has issued Official Document No. 173/VP-PCTT, directing proactive measures to respond to heavy rain and the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

According to information from the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, from August 15th to the night of August 16th, the northeastern region of Vietnam, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 70 to 150 mm, and in some localized areas, very heavy rain exceeding 300 mm.

Warning: From August 17th to the night of August 18th, the Northeast region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall amounts will generally range from 50-120mm, with some areas exceeding 300mm.

To proactively respond to heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, and Civil Defense requests the People's Committees of wards and communes; and relevant agencies and units to immediately implement the following:

The organization will closely monitor, forecast, warn, and promptly inform about the developments of rainfall and floods in order to proactively implement response measures.

Directing inspections, reviews, and preparation of plans to ensure the safety of reservoirs and downstream areas, especially small hydropower reservoirs, critical irrigation reservoirs, and reservoirs with full water levels; deploying permanent forces to operate and regulate water levels and be ready to handle any potential situations.

Organize the review and relocation of people, vehicles, and property from dangerous areas, especially areas at high risk of landslides, flash floods, and flooding, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property, as well as state property.

Control, guide, and reroute traffic, especially through underpasses, overflows, and deeply flooded areas. Educate and guide people on safety skills and risk reduction during floods; strictly prohibit people from fishing, collecting firewood, etc., in rivers, streams, and downstream of lakes and dams during floods to avoid loss of life.

Maintain a strict duty roster, regularly compile and report the situation and damage caused by natural disasters to the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, and Civil Defense.
