Nghe An prepares 5 scenarios to respond to storm Rai about to enter the East Sea

The storm in the East Sea hasinternational name is RaiOkayIt is forecasted to be a very strong storm, moving quickly and with complex developments. According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (tonight, December 17), storm Rai will enter the East Sea with the strongest wind near the storm center reaching level 13-14, gusting to level 17, causing waves 6-8m high, expected to make landfall in the East Sea within the next 24 hours, directly threatening the safety of ships and activities at sea and along the coast.

Based on information updated by the National Hydrometeorological Station and forecast of the storm's direction,Deputy Prime Minister Le Van ThanhThe Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the spirit and responsibility of the ministries and local branches in proactively responding to storm Rai. However, the Deputy Prime Minister also noted that this is a strong storm with complex developments, appearing at the end of the year, so it is easy to lead to subjectivity. Therefore, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment monitors developments and promptly informs about the storm. The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Coastal Areas need to proactively prepare response and rescue plans, ensuring the safety of people and property when the storm makes landfall.

In Nghe An, to proactively respond to the storm, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has issued a telegram directing relevant units and coastal districts to closely monitor the developments of storm Rai. Nghe An currently has 3,500 boats and 2,700 aquaculture cages of all kinds. As of the afternoon of December 17, there were still 436 small boats of the people operating at sea.

Immediately after the Government meeting, comradeHoang Nghia Hieu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committeehad a separate meeting with members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and Rescue on the storm response plan. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee noted that although it was the end of the season storm and many boats had returned to shore during the lunar new year holiday, he requested units and localities not to be subjective but to focus as much as possible, increase human resources and means to call on remaining boats operating at sea to anchor safely; when conditions are met, issue a sea ban; resolutely not let people stay on boats, ships or aquaculture cages when the storm comes.

According to the approved plan, Nghe An has5 response scenarios,Along with that are evacuation plans for coastal residents depending on the storm level and sea level rise. However, when the storm hits, local units must review specifically to have orders and plans to evacuate the number of households in each area in line with reality; do not evacuate indiscriminately; after the storm, combined with cold air and circulation, there is often heavy rain, so investors of hydroelectric projects, irrigation dams or aquaculture areas need to have response plans; along with that, it is necessary to review areas prone to landslides, ensuringdike system safetyand dams; prepare adequate rescue forces and equipment to promptly handle any situations that arise./.
