Currently, the province has 2,906 cooperative groups and 664 cooperatives and credit funds, with more than 450,000 members and employees. Of these, 152/555 cooperatives and credit funds have been converted according to the 2012 Law on Cooperatives.

The groups and cooperatives operate mainly in the fields of small-scale industry, trade services, agricultural services, fisheries and aquaculture services, land preparation, mechanical harvesting, credit funds, etc.

Of these, there are 103 strong cooperatives, accounting for 16% and 242 good cooperatives, accounting for 37.5%, contributing to economic restructuring, job creation, ensuring social security and building new rural areas in each locality.

However, with a large province and a large labor force, the number of existing cooperatives is modest. On the other hand, there are still 9% of weak cooperatives.

Agricultural cooperatives have not yet proactively entered into joint ventures and partnerships to expand product consumption activities, so there are still many weaknesses in production and business, leading to low labor income and failure to attract skilled and qualified workers to work in cooperatives.

Speaking at the meeting, after appreciating the efforts of the Nghe An Cooperative Union in its role of supporting the development of the province's collective economy, comrade Nguyen Dac Thang suggested that the provincial Cooperative Union should proactively advise the province in reviewing, arranging, and converting cooperatives, ensuring sustainable development, avoiding formalism, subjectivity, and voluntarism.
