Nghe An: Saving the life of a patient with multiple injuries caused by a mine explosion
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An General Hospital has just received and performed emergency surgery on patient Bui Van N. who suffered multiple injuries due to a mine explosion.
On April 11, patient Bui Van N. (33 years old, Quy Chau district) was hospitalized in a state of multiple trauma shock. The patient's chest area was severely damaged with a chest wall wound measuring 8x10 cm in diameter, a fracture of the sternal tip, a fracture of the right costal cartilage, and a ruptured intercostal artery; right lung consolidation, fluid and pneumothorax on both sides. The patient's left hand had a crushed wound, and the tips of fingers 1, 2, and 3 were missing.

After the surgery, patient N. was stable and was transferred for post-operative monitoring from the Surgical Intensive Care Department to the Thoracic Surgery Department. |
The patient's prognosis was severe, so the interdisciplinary surgical team: Thoracic Surgery, Trauma and Anesthesia and Resuscitation was urgently mobilized to perform emergency surgery for the patient.
Doctor Nguyen Van Viet, Department of Thoracic Surgery, surgeon of the surgery, commented: “After separating the fascia into the pleural cavity, the patient saw a lot of red-brown fluid flowing out, so the team placed a pleural drain on both sides. At the same time, they performed suturing to stop the bleeding of the intercostal artery, cleaned the wound and combined the sternum. On the other hand, the team treated the patient's hand wound.”
Currently, 2 days after emergency surgery, patient N. is awake, progressing stably and is being closely monitored post-operatively at the Thoracic Surgery Department.
It is known that on April 11, during the morning shift at the quarry, patient N. found a mine detonator. At 12 noon the same day, during his lunch break, Mr. N. carelessly caused the mine detonator to explode.
