Nghe An: Proposal to provide 32 billion VND in funding to support 'finding water' for daily life

(Baonghean.vn) - Severe drought in Nghe An in June and July has caused groundwater systems to dry up in many places, affecting more than 300,000 people. In addition to water-saving solutions, the Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation is proposing that the Provincial People's Committee allocate 32 billion VND to "find water" for the people.

The support solutions proposed by the Center include: Support for transporting clean water to affected areas that cannot be remedied on the spot, with a minimum total estimated cost of 1,665 million VND; Support for expanding the water supply network of existing centralized water supply systems to nearby difficult areas, with a minimum total estimated cost of 3,825 million VND; Support for emergency repairs of works and completion of projects; Connecting and expanding water supply pipelines from water plants to residential areas lacking water and suffering from drought from Hung Tan Water Plant to Hung Phuc, Hung Thang, Hung Tien, and Hung Xa water supply stations to ensure overcoming the lack of domestic water in the above communes in particular and the area south of Road 46 of Hung Nguyen district in general.

In addition, we will install and operate field oil pumping stations that utilize water sources from rivers and streams to provide water to fight drought. We will also drill wells to get groundwater to meet urgent needs to fight drought.

Mr. Phan Bui My - Director of the Center for Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation NT, said that in June, Hung Phuc and Hung Thang water supply stations had drilled additional wells to exploit groundwater. However, the water quality from the UNCEF wells was very poor, with high iron contamination, salinity, and heavy organic pollution, making it very difficult to treat.

The Center also urged districts to urgently implement unfinished projects, complete wells and drilling projects supported by the budget. Dredge and clear surface water systems and provide financial support to people in Nam Dan, Con Cuong, Do Luong, and Anh Son.

At the same time, Nghe An Water Supply Company Limited, water supply companies in districts and rural areas need to develop detailed plans to ensure domestic water supply for people. Proactively inspect, maintain and repair water supply works in the area, prevent water leakage and loss, manage, operate and distribute, and increase water pumping time for domestic use.
