Nghe An: Grade 10 benchmark scores of schools will decrease sharply
(Baonghean.vn) - In 2019, Huynh Thuc Khang High School had 1,078 registered candidates. If the target of 588 candidates was taken, the school's admission score would be 37.2 points.
Although the official entrance exam scores for grade 10 will not be announced until mid-July, some schools have already estimated their entrance scores based on the enrollment quotas previously approved by the Department of Education and Training.
The benchmark scores in Vinh City do not differ too much between schools.
Among the 65 public high schools that organized the 10th grade entrance exam this year, Huynh Thuc Khang High School has the highest number of registered candidates with 1,078 candidates. Currently, if the target is 588 candidates, the school's admission score will be 37.2 points.
This benchmark (if vocational training points are deducted) will be equivalent to the previous school year. However, due to the characteristics of Huynh Thuc Khang High School, many students who are admitted will transfer to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University High School for the Gifted, so the benchmark may still fluctuate.
Regarding this, Mr. Cao Thanh Bao - Principal of the school said: Currently, the entrance exam scores are quite high, but if the number of students admitted but do not attend school, we will be forced to lower the admission score to meet the enrollment quota. It is expected that this year's admission score will decrease by 4-5 points compared to previous years.

In the remaining schools in Vinh city, the benchmark scores also decreased by 1.5 - 2 points compared to last year.
At Ha Huy Tap High School, the school's current expected benchmark score is 31.7, nearly 2 points lower than last year.
The school principal also said: This is the initial preliminary score and when it is announced, it will definitely decrease because some students will transfer schools. However, the decrease is very small, less than one point because the school still prioritizes recruiting NV2 candidates.
At Le Viet Thuat High School, the expected score will also fluctuate between 29 and 30 points.
The scores of the middle schools are quite even.
Up to this point, although there are no official statistics, the "picture" of the 10th grade exam scores has been revealed.
Accordingly, this year, Do Luong and Vinh city are the two localities with a fairly high average score (29.33 points). The remaining localities have approximately the same average score, ranging from 24-26 points (13 districts and towns). The lower districts range from 13-20 points, mainly concentrated in mountainous districts.
Looking at the scores of the schools that have been announced, it also shows that this year, there are not many candidates who scored above 40 points. Therefore, the standard scores of the schools, if high, only fluctuate between 30 and 33 points. The rest all fluctuate below 26 points.
In Dien Chau district, the preliminary expected benchmark scores of schools will be from 20 to 24 points. The highest scores are Nguyen Xuan On High School with about 25.4 points, Dien Chau 3 High School with about 24.3 points, Dien Chau 2 High School with about 17.8 points, Dien Chau 4 High School with about 21.9 points and Dien Chau 5 High School with about 19.4 points. This score is not higher than previous years.
Teacher Phan Trong Dong - Principal of Dien Chau 3 High School said: This year, there are not many high exam scores, but the students' floor scores are quite stable and the input quality is quite good. This also accurately assesses the reality of teaching and learning in schools and clearly classifies excellent students, good students and average students.

For the remaining schools, if the competition rate is high, the source of students will be better.
For example, Le Hong Phong High School this year plans to set a benchmark score of 23.76. Meanwhile, the benchmark score of the previous school year was only 19 points. Teacher Nguyen Bich Hanh - Principal of the school said: Because the number of candidates registering for the school is higher than the target of nearly 200 students, we have many opportunities to recruit quality students. That is also a very positive signal for the school to improve the quality of education.
Quy Hop 2 High School, this year's expected benchmark score will also be 16 points, higher than the score of the previous school year because the number of candidates registering for the school is 660 students. Meanwhile, the quota is only 504 students.
On the contrary, at Thai Hoa High School, although the school has nearly 300 students with test scores above 30 points. However, because the enrollment rate is low at 420/422 candidates, the school's benchmark score may drop below 17 points if it wants to recruit enough students. The same thing will happen to schools in mountainous areas such as Muong Qua High School, Con Cuong High School, Tuong Duong High School, and Ky Son High School.

Currently, the Department of Education and Training is continuing to receive applications for re-examination from candidates. Therefore, the benchmark scores given are only estimates and depend on the number of candidates transferring to specialized schools.
According to the plan, from around July 10, the Department will approve the school's admission scores and then the official benchmark scores will be announced.
