Nghe An: Aquaculture area reaches 6,455 hectares
(Baonghean.vn) - In the first 3 months of 2016, many localities in the province actively closed the area of freshwater and brackish water aquaculture to reach 6,455 hectares, bringing the total farming output in the 3 months to 6,830 tons. Of which, freshwater farming output was 6,100 tons, brackish water farming output was 730 tons.
For brackish water farming areas, people are continuing to renovate ponds, canals, and clean the farming environment to carry out the new production season. Some areas have plans for shrimp farming, and it is expected that by the end of March, the shrimp farming area will reach 55 hectares. For freshwater farming, localities are focusing on renovating ponds and carrying out fish farming in combination with rice. In March alone, it is estimated that 900 hectares will be farmed, of which 600 hectares will be fish and rice.

This year, due to the impact of severe cold, the rice planting time is later than planned, resulting in the area for fish farming later than usual. Some localities have large farming areas in the first 3 months of the year such as Yen Thanh about 1,050 hectares, Hung Nguyen 750 hectares, Dien Chau 300 hectares, Anh Son 250 hectares,... The main farming objects are traditional fish species including silver carp, tilapia, grass carp...
The Aquaculture Sub-Department directs localities and farming areas to deploy aquaculture production in accordance with the industry's announced seasonal schedule and to effectively implement disease prevention work on aquatic animals to achieve high efficiency in the production process.
