Nghe An adjusts plan for provincial-level excellent student competition.

The annual student excellence competition is held to motivate and encourage teachers and students to develop their creative abilities, excel in teaching and learning. Through this, it aims to identify students with aptitude in a particular subject, creating a pool for further training and fulfilling the goal of cultivating talent for the homeland and the country.

Regarding gifted student competitions, before the implementation of the two-tiered local government system, in addition to the national gifted student competition conducted according to the Ministry's general guidelines, Nghe An also organized a provincial-level gifted student competition, and some localities organized a grassroots-level (district, city, town) gifted student competition. During implementation, Nghe An province divided the teams into two groups, Group A and Group B, to differentiate schools in urban areas, lowland areas, mountainous districts, private schools, and continuing education centers.

Specifically, the Provincial High School Student Excellence Examination for 12th graders includes the following subjects: Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, Education in Science and Law, and Foreign Language.

For 12th-grade students in continuing education programs at the high school level, the subjects they will take are: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, and Education in Technology and Law.

According to the new regulations, for 12th grade, Group A includes high schools throughout the province. However, the following schools will have their students take the exam in Group B: Ky Son High School, Tuong Duong 1 High School, Tuong Duong 2 High School, Con Cuong High School, Muong Qua High School, Que Phong High School, Quy Chau High School, and Quy Hop 3 High School; and non-public high schools. 12th grade students in continuing education programs at the high school level will take a separate exam in a different group.

In the Provincial Excellent Student Selection Exam for 9th grade at the lower secondary level, students will take exams in the following subjects: Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Literature, History and Geography, English, French, Civic Education, and Informatics.

In this system, Group A consists of schools from wards and communes. However, for the communes of Con Cuông, Môn Sơn, Mậu Thạch, Cam Phục, Châu Khê, Bình Chuẩn, Mường Xén, Hữu Kiệm, Nậm Cắn, Chiêu Lưu, Na Loi, Mường Típ, Na Ngoi, Mỹ Lý, Bắc Lý, Keng Đu, Huồi Tụ, Mường Lống, Quế Phong, Tiền Phong, Tri Lễ, Mường Quàng, Thông Thụ, Quỳ Châu, Châu Tiến, Hùng Chân, Châu Bình, Tương Dương, Tam Quang, Tam Thái, Yên Na, Yên Hòa, Nga My, Hữu Khuông, and Nhôn Mai, candidates will take the exam in Group B.

Changes to the examination quotas of schools.

Due to adjustments in local government at the commune level, the Department of Education and Training has also adjusted the number of candidates allowed to take the exam in schools starting this school year. For high schools, depending on the number of classes and the grade level, schools will be allowed to send 1 to 7 candidates per subject to take the exam.

Specifically for the two specialized high schools, Vinh University High School for the Gifted and Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, for specialized subjects, if students meet the eligibility requirements, the entire class can register to take the exam.

For non-specialized subjects, Vinh University High School for Gifted Students is allowed a maximum of 3 students per subject, and Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students is allowed a maximum of 10 students per subject. For specialized subjects like Chinese, Japanese, and Russian, if students meet the eligibility requirements, up to 50% of the specialized class's class size may register to take the English exam.

In the Grade 9 Excellent Student Examination, wards and communes in Group A with 25 or more Grade 9 classes will select 1-3 candidates per subject/content; wards and communes in Group A with 10-24 Grade 9 classes will select 1-2 candidates per subject/content; and wards and communes in Group A with fewer than 10 Grade 9 classes will select 1 candidate per subject/content.

Specifically for wards and communes in category A that have high-quality key schools, 8-10 candidates may be selected, depending on the number of 9th-grade classes in the school. For communes in category B, 1-2 students per subject may be selected.

Previously, starting from the 2024-2025 school year, Nghe An province applied a system of bonus points for junior high school students who won provincial-level awards or were outstanding students at the national level when applying for admission to grade 10. Specifically, students winning first place received 1.5 bonus points; second place received 1.0 bonus point; and third place received 0.5 bonus points.

For 12th-grade students, the results of the provincial-level excellent student competition will be used for university admissions.
