Nghe An: Pig price increases, meat price also 'reverses'
(Baonghean.vn) - After a miserable price drop, over the past 3 days, the price of live pigs has increased again, causing the price of pork in traditional markets to also increase.
Pig prices increase
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai in Thanh An commune (Thanh Chuong) just sold 15 pigs, weighing 80-100 kg each, for 45,000 VND/kg on October 22. On the morning of October 24, when contacting traders, they reported the latest price of live pigs was 50,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Mai said: “10 days ago, I sold a herd of 10 pigs for 40,000 VND/kg, then the price dropped to 38,000 VND/kg and then 36,000 VND/kg. But suddenly, the price of pigs increased again, to 45,000 VND/kg, I decided to sell the remaining herd, but this morning, the price of pigs continued to increase.”
Regretting selling two herds of pigs at a cheap price, losing tens of millions of dong, Ms. Mai said, anyway, she is happy becausepork prices increaseReturning will help farmers reduce losses and continue to restore their herds in the context of recurring diseases and high animal feed prices.

At many large farms, pig prices have increased, but farm owners are still in no hurry to sell, hoping for a better price to avoid losses. Photo: Thanh Phuc |
“Five days ago, my family sold 30 pigs to a trader in Thai Hoa town for 39,500 VND/kg, but now the price has increased again, reaching 50,000 VND/kg. It's a pity that we sold at a loss, butPork prices fluctuate constantly"With this situation, pig farmers don't know how to predict it," said Mr. Phan Xuan Khanh, a pig farmer in Dinh Son commune (Anh Son).
Currently, according to a survey, the price of live pigs in the market nationwide is continuing to increase. Accordingly, the strongest increase is in the Southern market. Particularly in Nghe An, the price of pigs is currently fluctuating between 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg (depending on the weight and type of pig).

According to pig farmers, although the price of pigs has increased, even at 50,000 VND/kg, they still have to make up for the loss due to the high price of piglets, animal feed and veterinary medicine. Photo: Thanh Phuc |
Mr. Duong Manh Hung in Dong Hieu commune (Thai Hoa town) - a trader specializing in purchasing pork from Nghe An - Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh to import to the North said: "Currently, the price of live pigs has increased rapidly. In the past week, the price has jumped from 32,000 - 35,000 VND/kg to 50,000 VND/kg."
According to Mr. Hung, the price of pigs has increased, so farmers have the mindset of "hoarding goods to wait for price increaseMany farms have called for sale before but are now hesitating to sell. It is expected that this time, people will stop selling to wait for better prices, so the supply of pork will stagnate and the price of pork will quickly exceed 50,000 VND/kg.
However, according to Mr. Hung, when the price of pigs shows signs of increasing too quickly, it is often unsustainable, so people should consider selling them when they have reached the weight, because if they exceed the threshold, it will be difficult to sell and once the market stagnates, they will suffer losses.

Pork prices continue to increase
Rising pork prices causeThe price of commercial meat in the markets also "reversed" and increased accordingly.. After 10 days of maintaining the price of 70,000 - 90,000 VND/kg of meat (depending on the type), the price of pork of all kinds has now increased by 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg. Currently, the price of meat at traditional markets ranges from 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg. Ms. Ha Thi Anh - a pork trader at Coi market (Hung Loc) said: "The price of live pigs increases every day, jumping 4-5 prices each day, so the price of meat must be adjusted to increase accordingly."

Currently, the price of piglets continues to increase gradually according to the price of live pigs and the need for herd restoration. Currently, a fully vaccinated piglet costs 1.3 million VND with a weight of 7-8 kg, an increase of 300,000-400,000 VND/pig compared to the previous week. Photo: Thanh Phuc |
As for the farmers, they said that with the current increase, with live pigs at 50,000 VND/kg, farmers still have to make up for the loss because the price of industrial feed and veterinary medicine is very high. Only when pigs reach 55,000 VND/kg will farmers make a profit.
Currently, African swine fever has re-emerged in many localities and tends to spread widely. In addition, pig prices are erratic, so farmers are very cautious when re-herding. Many households are leaving their barns empty, while farms and ranches have reduced the size of their herds, raising them sparingly to serve the Lunar New Year, while monitoring market developments to have appropriate plans and minimize losses./.
