Nghe An: Pig price drops sharply, now below 70,000 VND/kg

Nghe Anis a locality that develops pig farming, currently with a total herd of over 900,000 pigs. Recently, the price of live pigs has tended to decrease sharply, causing difficulties for pig farmers.
Mr. Hoang Van Anh, a pig slaughterer in Nam Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), said that currently,porkdue to small scale farmers being caught by traders at the price of 62,000 - 65,000 VND/kg. A week ago, the price of pigs was still above 70,000 VND/kg.
"Although the price of live pigs has decreased, it is difficult to catch pigs for meat because there are few pigs raised by small-scale farmers. Meanwhile, consumers want to eat pork raised by farmers, so they have to go to farmers' markets every day to buy pigs," Mr. Anh shared.
Mr. Thanh, owner of a large-scale farm in Dien Tho commune (Dien Chau), said that the selling price of super lean pigs has dropped to 67,000 VND/kg, down 5,000 - 6,000 VND/kg compared to a week ago.

According to pig farm owners, the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic and African swine fever has slowed down market consumption, and many people have switched to other types of food.
Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said that the high price of animal feed, while the complicated developments of African swine fever have had a strong impact onbreeders, many people will sell off pigs. Meanwhile, the hot weather makes people not interested in pork, causing slow meat consumption. From those reasons, the price of live pigs has decreased in the past week.
It is known that the price of live pigs in the provinces has also decreased sharply. In the North, the price of pork fluctuates between 64,000 - 69,000 VND/kg. In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the price ranges between 67,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. In the South, the price of pork ranges from 67,000 - 71,000 VND/kg.
Compared to this time last year, the price of live pigs reached 100,000 VND/kg, so the current price of live pigs nationwide has decreased from 23,000 - 26,000 VND/kg./.
