The workshop was held during the working visit of the delegation of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee led by Mr. Le Xuan Dai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, to the UK.
In his opening speech at the workshop, Mr. Le Xuan Dai introduced the strengths of Nghe An province, which is located on the North-South and East-West exchange routes, connecting the North and South of Vietnam, convenient for both domestic and international traffic as it is the gateway to the East Sea for Central Laos and Northeastern Thailand.
Nghe An is the largest province in the country with abundant resources, with great potential for developing processing industries, forest and marine economy. This homeland of the great President Ho Chi Minh - World Cultural Celebrity is also the starting point of the "Central Heritage Road" with many beautiful beaches and the Western Nghe An World Biosphere Reserve recognized by UNESCO, converging all the conditions to become a key tourist destination of the country.
However, Nghe An has not had many investment projects from UK enterprises. Therefore, the organization of this seminar is considered by the provincial leaders as a specific and sincere invitation that Nghe An province sends to British enterprises with the hope that enterprises and investors will understand more about the people and potential, and be interested in investing in Nghe An for the benefit of the investors themselves as well as contributing to the socio-economic development in the area.
After listening to the presentation of Mr. Hoang Nhat An, Department of Planning and Investment of Nghe An province, with the delegates, on the potential and investment opportunities of Nghe An province, Mr. SK Lingam, Chairman of the ASEAN-UK Trade Forum, called on British investors that this is the right time to put Vietnam on the "strategic map."
He praised Vietnam for its dynamic economy and stable political environment, considering these as extremely important factors for investors. He also pointed out the investment and business opportunities in Vietnam in areas such as oil and gas, retail, ports and logistics, education and training, financial services, electricity, information technology as well as infrastructure development, especially in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects that the Vietnamese Government is considering as an investment priority.
The workshop listened to Mr. Martyn Skinner, who connected the only British project to Nghe An so far, the Tate & Lyle Sugarcane Factory, which has been in operation since 1996, share his experiences in researching and working with local authorities and people to implement the project, which is considered the most effective among 44 sugarcane projects in Vietnam and has made great contributions to the socio-economic development of Nghe An province in recent times.
In addition, the workshop also spent a lot of time answering British businesses' concerns about Nghe An province's priority policies in attracting investment and questions related to administrative procedures.
Mr. Le Xuan Dai affirmed Nghe An province's commitment to consistently implementing issued policies, preparing clean land funds and infrastructure in economic zones and industrial parks, preparing human resources, upgrading essential infrastructure and ancillary services for investors to operate most effectively./.
