(Baonghean.vn) - Storm No. 3 caused heavy rain on the night of July 18, causing many localities in the province to be flooded. It is worth mentioning that the summer-autumn rice and vegetable areas were severely damaged. Localities are urgently implementing measures to prevent flooding.

Nghi Loc: 3,600 hectares of rice and vegetables flooded

The summer-autumn rice fields, which had been planted for more than a month in Nghi Thai commune, Nghi Loc district, were flooded after a storm and heavy rain last night.

Located in the low-lying area of ​​the district, directly affected by water from Vinh City and Nghi Loc, 100% of the commune's agricultural production area was flooded after the storm. Specifically, 37 hectares of summer-autumn rice were deeply flooded, 55 hectares of sesame and corn, 5 hectares of vegetables, and more than 28 hectares of aquaculture were all deeply flooded.

The water level on Rao Dung dam in the commune has risen nearly 1 meter. Currently, the locality is coordinating with units to remove culvert 42 and spillway, open Rao Dung drainage culvert to drain water, limit flooding for agricultural production areas.

According to initial statistics, in Nghi Loc area, 3,000 hectares of rice, 600 hectares of crops, 180 hectares of aquaculture (mainly concentrated in Nghi Quang, Nghi Yen, Nghi Tien, Nghi Hop, Nghi Thai communes) were flooded.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho - Vice Chairman of Nghi Loc District People's Committee said: Currently, the district directs localities to focus on draining water for agricultural production areas, mainly along the Cam River; Continue to monitor the dam system in the area to immediately fix any problems that arise; monitor the ebb and flow of the tide to coordinate with the Nam Irrigation Company to operate the maximum drainage system at the Nghi Quang, Thuong Xa, Nghi Khanh, Rao Dung Nghi Thai estuaries.

The district is directing communes with open and closed drainage culverts to operate at maximum capacity to open all culverts, remove duckweed, clear the flow... to drain water as quickly as possible.

Dien Chau: 50% of summer-autumn rice area flooded

According to a quick report from the Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue Command of Dien Chau district, 250mm of rain and gusts of wind at level 5-6 caused 4,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice, accounting for 50% of the area, to be submerged in water, 1,900 hectares of sesame, 50 hectares of watermelon and hundreds of hectares of vegetables were also submerged in water.

Along with that, 100 hectares of aquaculture ponds in Dien Van and Dien Trung overflowed, causing billions of dong in damage.

The district directed the operation of 100% capacity of 30 sluice gates across the dike, especially Dien Thanh sluice gate opened all 3 gates to discharge water on Bung River.

Do Luong: Hundreds of hectares of corn and peanuts lost

Early in the morning right after the storm, many fields in Bac Son commune, Do Luong district were flooded. According to statistics, the whole commune had over 100 hectares of rice submerged in water, 10 hectares of autumn corn fell down, 20 hectares of peanuts and beans were completely damaged.

Mr. To Hoai Bao - Vice Chairman of Bac Son Commune People's Committee said: "The autumn corn area that people have planted has been nearly 2 months, the C919 variety. If it does not fall, each sao will harvest about 1.5 quintals of grain, worth 1 million VND. It is calculated that 10 hectares of corn in the commune suffered a loss of about 200 million VND".

Currently, the entire Do Luong district has over 400 hectares of autumn corn planted on riverside alluvial land and fertile soil. Due to flooding for several days now, combined with strong winds and storms on the night of July 18 and early morning of July 19, over 300 hectares of corn have fallen and been flooded.

In addition, the entire district has nearly 100 hectares of summer-autumn peanuts on fertile soil that have also been flooded in the past few days.

Do Luong district has directed localities to actively dredge the canal system. Particularly for the area of ​​over 300 hectares of fish raised in ponds and lakes, people are urgently setting up nets to prevent fish from escaping.

Quynh Luu: Nearly 2,900 hectares of crops were flooded.

According to a quick report from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district, through the understanding of 33 communes and towns in the area, storm No. 3 has affected the lives and production of people. Accordingly, the whole district has 1,819 hectares of summer-autumn rice and nearly 1,000 hectares of vegetables and corn flooded; 243 hectares of aquaculture area affected by flooding; 60 hectares of forest, 25 electric poles were broken; 3 houses had their roofs blown off and 145 houses were flooded; especially 15,000 tons of salt of salt farmers were flooded.

The localities with the most severe damage to vegetables are Quynh Minh, Quynh Thanh, Quynh Luong; aquaculture is Quynh Hau, Quynh Thanh, Quynh Dien. Many houses in communes in Quynh Chau, Cau Giat town and Quynh My are flooded.

Thanh Chuong: Over 1,000 hectares of rice and crops were flooded.

According to initial statistics, up to now, Thanh Chuong district has had over 1,000 hectares of rice and crops flooded. Concentrated mainly in the communes of Bich Hao and Xuan Lam.

It is estimated that in the whole province, more than 20,000 hectares of rice were flooded, more than 5,000 hectares of crops were damaged, causing tens of billions of dong in damage.
