(Baonghean.vn) - This is the fifth time the School Folk Song Competition has been held on a province-wide scale. The implementation is part of the Project to preserve and promote the value of Folk Songs, Vi, Giam, Nghe Tinh heritage in Nghe An province for the period 2021 - 2025.

Nghe An Provincial People's Committee has just issued a Plan to organize the "Singing" Contest.folk songsin schools” for the 5th time, 2023. Previously, the contest held in 2018 attracted over 800 students and teachers across the province to participate in order to preserve and promote the typical cultural values ​​of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs - intangible cultural heritage of humanity and folk songs of regions in the province. Through the contest, it contributes to promoting the movement of learning and singing folk songs in schools, discovering and nurturing the seeds of folk songs at primary and secondary levels.

At the 2018 competition, the first prize winner was Nam Dan district. The second prize winners were Thanh Chuong and Yen Thanh districts, and the third prize winners were Nghia Dan, Con Cuong and Dien Chau districts.

After the contest, Nghe An College of Culture and Arts and the Center for Preservation and Promotion of Nghe An Folk Heritage coordinated to directly enroll 8 excellent students into the school.

Following the success of the previous competition, this year's competition is scheduled to be held from March to May 2023 at school, district and provincial levels. The provincial competition is expected to be held from May 25 to 30, 2023 with the participation of 21 teams from 21 districts and cities.

In this contest, the teams will compete in singing folk songs of various genres: Vi, Giam Nghe Tinh and folk songs of regions and ethnic minorities in Nghe An province. The organizing committee also encourages the performances to write new lyrics that are appropriate to the content, and to know how to use the melody of the lyrics to rhyme and tune correctly.

Through the contest, the aim is to maintain the folk singing movement in schools, discover and nurture folk singing talents for the homeland and country.

Thereby, it also aims to preserve, conserve, introduce, promote and develop the cultural values, typical of the singing genres and folk performances, Vi and Giam of Nghe Tinh which have been recognized by UNESCO as representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity and folk songs of regions and ethnic minorities throughout the province.
