In recent years, the Livestock industry in our country has grown quite well and made important contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

According to the report of the Vietnam Poultry Association, in 2017, the total production value of the livestock industry reached about 210 trillion VND. Of which, the poultry industry ranked second after pig farming, reaching 43 trillion VND.

In the period 2005 - 2017, poultry farming still maintained a fairly high growth rate, averaging 5.0% per year in terms of head, 8 - 10% in terms of meat and egg output; breed structure and production methods changed in a positive direction; many large-scale farms with modern and advanced technology were formed; poultry products were exported to official markets and some demanding markets.

In addition to the achieved results, in general, poultry farming in our country is still facing many difficulties: Small-scale, scattered farming still accounts for a high proportion, farm farming tends to develop but is still spontaneous and lacks planning; breed quality and breed management still have many shortcomings; product prices are high, while product output is unstable, epidemics often occur, food hygiene and safety are not strictly controlled...

The above-mentioned problems are becoming a big challenge in our country's poultry industry, especially when the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will come into effect in early 2019.

Therefore, at the workshop, delegates focused on discussing solutions to develop the poultry industry towards increasing productivity, quality, efficiency, and sustainable competitiveness in the trend of increasingly deep international integration; seizing opportunities and overcoming challenges in the new period.

Accordingly, the solutions proposed by delegates at the workshop focused on the following issues: Planning the poultry breeding system, management solutions; policies, investment; solutions on livestock farming techniques; Biosafety measures in poultry farms; reorganization of production.

Localities focus on solutions on management, investment, production reorganization...

Proposing solutions for sustainable livestock development, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized: After 5 years of restructuring the agricultural sector, restructuring the livestock sector, with the goal of shifting the structure towards increasing the proportion of poultry in the livestock herd, up to now, the total poultry herd of Nghe An has reached nearly 22.5 million; the total output of live poultry meat for slaughter reached over 28.9 thousand tons (ranked 3rd in the country).

Nghe An will review poultry farming areas associated with disease safety and environmental control; Continue to direct breeding facilities to use high-yield, good-quality poultry breeds that suit consumer tastes in production; Encourage the development of indigenous poultry breeds and high-quality specialty breeds; Guide people to develop production on a farm and livestock farm scale; link directly with enterprises or through cooperative groups.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Chairman of the Vietnam Poultry Association, the development orientation of poultry farming in our country is based on market demand; focusing on high-quality product lines and local specialty breeds.

Along with that, focus on reorganizing production and chain production models; review livestock processing models with close supervision, avoid causing damage and risks to livestock farmers and ensure environmental hygiene, at the same time promote other types of production associated with enterprises and cooperatives; need to review and amend new regulations and policies on livestock farming; Strengthen the dissemination of new technical advances to farmers.

Scientific research units need to connect more closely with enterprises, cooperatives, and farming households, in the form of a four-house association to promptly support more effective livestock farming; in the immediate future, providing a stable and good quality source of breeds./.
